Rumor on the street is that INTEL will select SCOC's UNIX as "their" standard OS for the new MERCED chip. Any idea as to how this might impact SUNW?

Is their any significant difference between SCOC's UNIX and SUNW SOLARIS? SUNW has already stated that they will port their most current version of Sun SOLARIS to the INTEL MERCED platform.

If INTEL does select SCOC's Unix as "the standard" this would imply that CPQ, DELL, and even IBM will follow with preloaded versions of this OS for their customers.

SUNW needs to get the word out on SOLARIS and start to market the benefits over SCOC's UNIX so when MERCED is finally released, the customer can have a CPQ, DELL or IBM build their servers with SOLARIS rather than SCOC's UNIX.

This will be an important announcement if and when it happens...let's just hope it is more rumor than fact.
