Craig Benson, CEO, Cabletron Systems To GiveKeynote Speech at ComNet Tomorrow's Networks/Today's Reality
September 15, 1998 12:13 PM

ROCHESTER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 1998--Craig Benson, Cabletron Systems' CS chairman and CEO, will give the keynote address at ComNet/San Francisco. The speech, entitled "Tomorrow's Networks/Today's Reality," will take place on Wednesday, September 30 at 11:45 am and will focus on strengthening today's enterprise network for tomorrow's critical business needs.

The demands on networks are steadily increasing as a result of high-bandwidth applications such as e-commerce, information appliances and voice-data convergence. As networks become the focal point of businesses, these demands become mission-critical and can directly effect the success or failure of a company.

With that kind of dependence being placed on the enterprise, utility-like reliability is crucial. The dependability utilities represent has resulted from decades of cooperative industry standards development, which enabled companies to build infrastructures that reliably carry electrical, water, phone and natural gas services.

Benson's keynote will focus on the importance of bringing utility-like reliability to enterprise networks, as well as key challenges facing customers and vendors. In his speech, "Tomorrow's Networks/Today's Reality, Benson will demonstrate how "best-of-breed" technology combined with a push from the industry to establish more standards will ultimately make tomorrow's networks possible today.

"The next century will only see a tremendous increase in demand and usage of networks, which will impact every part of our society and daily lives. Enterprise networks need to simplify the flow and control of information, providing the highest level of service that our mission critical applications require," says Benson. "A combination of additional standards by the networking industry and best-of-breed technology from the vendors will make utility-like networks achievable."

Craig Benson is chairman and chief executive officer of Cabletron Systems, one of the world's largest and most successful networking companies. Benson founded Cabletron in 1983, growing the company from a two-man start-up operation to one of the world's leading providers of computer networking solutions. Benson was named "Entrepreneur of the Year" in 1991 by Inc. magazine. He graduated from Babson College with a degree in finance and an MBA from Syracuse University.
