Internet servers...dependable ones at that!
On Sept. 1 and 2, UUNet had router malfunctions in the Chicago area that "may have caused some latency," says Mara Radis, a UUNet spokeswoman. In accordance with its service agreement with DLJdirect, it issued the broker a 14-day credit for the service problems. As the world's largest ISP with networks around the world, when something goes wrong at UUNet, customers of any ISP could be affected. UUNet posts its network problems and network improvements on its website.
DLJdirect uses ISP Digex, an Intermedia Communications (Nasdaq:ICIX - news) unit, in addition to UUNet, and has three lines connecting to each ISP so it has options when tech problems occur. It is negotiating with a third provider, Exodus (Nasdaq:EXDS - news). |
