Cool -- here's more info:
10. How many shows can ReplayTV store in its digital storage space?
The base ReplayTV unit comes with about seven hours of storage space, but additional storage of up to 20 hours or more may be purchased.
11. Seven hours doesn't seem like a lot...won't most people need more?
Well, more is always better, but remember, ReplayTV was not designed to be a long-term archival device. It is constantly recycling storage space as recorded shows are watched. If ReplayTV captures something that users would like to save permanently, they can easily off load it to a VCR.
12. Do you offer ReplayTV models with more than seven hours of storage?
Yes. Seven hours is the amount of storage in the base ReplayTV model, but the company also offers models with higher storage capacity. Initially, the practical maximum capacity of ReplayTV is just over 20 hours of program storage, but that will increase over time as hard drives continue to get bigger. Also, in the future ReplayTV will offer an expansion module that connects to ReplayTV via the FireWire (IEEE-1394) port that will allow users to increase dramatically the number of hours of TV programming that ReplayTV can store.
So, it come with 7 hours of storage space. A single side of a DVD is 4.7G, and a fair amount of it is dedicated to overhead. How large do you think the hard disk is in ReplayTV for 7 hours? 10Gbytes? Is is possible for it to be smaller? I just saw an 11.5G hard drive for $279, single unit price. |
