That's arguable. Yes, if we dragged James Madison off into a time machine, pointed him to the scene of the POTUS getting s**cked off and asked him whether that was impeachable, he probably would say yes. But given the way our country and our mores have changed, I don't think this is the best way of figuring out what is an impeachable offense and what is not. Besides, the "demeaning to the Presidency" standard is silly; you would have had to impeach Nixon for using the words "k*ke" and "n*gger." You'd have to impeach Kennedy for cavorting naked in the WH swimming pool with the secretarial pool. You'd have to impeach LBJ for his habit of taking craps while being briefed by his Harvard-educated advisors. Assume that Clinton never lied, wouldn't Clinton's conduct of carrying on with ML meet your demeaning to the Presidency standard. Would you impeach him solely on those grounds? IMO, high crimes and misdemeanors must be read to encompass the abuse of the President's public duties.
