Same date, not same year. I'm 35. Bob died in 1981.
I was recovering from over indulgence at three vintage Nassau
Coliseum Grateful Dead shows. The news of Bob's demise naturally required another dose at the time. Just for perspective the Islanders were starting their 2nd run of their four championships and Bobby Sands had just starved himself to death in an Ireland prison. I graduated high school a few weeks later.
