SkyWave Delivers Quality of Service Management and Realtime Billing Solution Across Multiple IP Telephony Platforms NetManager 98 Provides Interoperable Solution For Brooktrout, Dialogic and <>

September 16, 1998 SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/
via NewsEdge Corporation -- Meeting the
growing demand from carriers and ISPs for
integrated Internet telephony solutions,
SkyWave Inc. the IP telephony enabling
technology leader, today announced the
immediate availability of NetManager 98, the
company's Quality of Service (QoS)
management and real-time billing solution. In
cooperation with Brooktrout, Dialogic, and
Natural Microsystems, NetManager 98
becomes the first application to control
multiple IP telephony platforms, allowing
carriers interoperability for their IP telephony
billing and quality of service management.

NetManager 98, designed to be the "Central
Office" of IP telephony, works as a
gatekeeper, monitoring and managing all
information going both into and out of an
Internet telephony gateway. Through
SkyWave's GCI (Gateway Control Interface),
NetManager 98 not only works as a billing
system by generating call records from the
gateway, but also as a Quality of Service
(QoS) system by controlling gateway
functions. The GCI allows NetManager 98, an
application running outside the gateway, to
control gateway IVR functions, call control
functions and event notification. By
receiving gateway events in real-time,
NetManager 98 is able to make intelligent
QoS decisions to offer the highest level of
service.

NetManager 98, incorporating Portal's
Infranet real-time billing engine, includes the
following key product capabilities.

-- Billing - Allows for multiple billing cycles
and exact end-of-period closing,
multi-currency conversion, immediate
credit-card billing or invoicing, sophisticated
accounting and general ledger allocations,
and the ability to drive external invoicing
systems such as SAP R/3.

-- Customer Management - Full suite of
administration tools for a customer service
call center.

-- Caller ID - Caller ID from the gateway can
be passed through as authorization of
customer.

-- Settlement - Accounts between
interoperable ITSP networks can be settled
automatically. The ITSP can offer real-time
billing information through their web browser.

-- Improved Quality Performance
-NetManager 98 provides real-time gateway
and IP network monitoring allowing multiple
QoS options.

-- Event Rating and Pricing - A real-time
rating engine enforces business policies
created from a graphical interface on any
event or combination of events.

-- LCR - Offers Least Cost Routing based on
time of day, volume of minutes, capacity at
destination gateway and other real-time
information.

-- Registration - Online or CSR registration
provides real-time data validation and credit
authorization, instant account creation and
customer data collection.

-- Prepaid service capability - Web-based
registration prepaid service or
batch-oriented debit cards are both
supported and include hierarchy pricing.

NetManager 98 also provides multiple options
for authentication and authorization,
customer activity tracking, full-function
client/server or web based reporting, a billing
solution for Microsoft's Commercial Internet
Systems, and legacy infrastructure
integration.

"NetManager 98, combined with our enabling
gateway technology and GCI, is a key
component of SkyWave's strategy to provide
carriers with a total IP telephony solution,"
said Kevin Nethercott, SkyWave's
co-founder and vice president. "The
scalability of NetManager 98 is a compelling
competitive differentiator that will enable
customers to meet the explosive growth
potential in IP telephony usage worldwide."

"SkyWave's NetManager 98 provides a
flexible billing and customer management
system on which to build our IP telephony
network. We chose it because it is
internet-based, has real-time capabilities
and because it is a GCI-compatible
application," said Koumei Takeda, President
of Respo, a Japan based ISP. "We started
with service between Japan and the
Philippines and wanted a solution that would
allow us to connect to other worldwide
networks. Because NetManager 98 runs on
multiple vendor gateways, we now have a
billing system that will carry us well into the
future."

Pricing for NetManager 98 begins at $200 per
port and is available on HP UNIX.
