THE DAY AHEAD: PC makers to see more price pain

PC makers have fixed inventory problems and adjusted to the sub-$1,000 market, but profit margins are about to get squeezed yet again. The cheap PC movement is about to get cheaper.

According to Ashok Kumar, an analyst with Piper Jaffray, a fully equipped PC will be announced next month that will cost $499. The machine will be marketed by E-Machines, which is a joint venture between Trigem, a Korean PC maker, and Korean Data Systems.
