MediaRing and InnoMedia Team for Internet Telephony Power
September 16, 1998
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE) via NewsEdge Corporation -- Two approaches to Internet telephony are converging as MediaRing, Inc. and InnoMedia, Inc. ally to share technologies and promote their products jointly throughout the world.
MediaRing provides PC-to-PC calling via the Internet. The company's MediaRing Talk connects two PCs running the software, no matter whether they are logged on the Internet when a call is initiated. MediaRing Talk software is free. A $4.95 monthly subscription fee lets users call anywhere, anytime and talk as long as they want, as often as they wish.
InnoMedia's solution does not rely on PCs to send calls onto the Internet. Its InfoTalk is a stand-alone device that routes long-distance calls to the recipient's InfoTalk unit. Callers place and receive calls on an ordinary telephone attached to InfoTalk.
InnoMedia's InfoGate is a highly reliable and scalable Voice over IP (VoIP) telephony gateway solution. It routes a local call, made from a standard phone, over the IP network to a remote gateway where the call is completed with a standard local outbound call to reach the desired phone number.
"Our companies believe in the Internet Protocol's potential for efficient global communications," says Kai-Wa Ng, CEO of InnoMedia. "The interoperability of our products with MediaRing's answers a variety of needs for users ranging from individual callers to large companies."
MediaRing will license its MediaRing Talk software for use with InnoMedia's InfoTalk. InnoMedia will enable MediaRing subscribers to add special services such as PC-to-phone and phone-to-PC. Above all, both MediaRing and InnoMedia customers can exchange calls regardless of the system they are using.
"The biggest challenge for Internet telephony providers is making the call process and quality like regular telephone service," says Ede-Phang Ng, president and CEO of MediaRing. "Melding our off-the-Net calling technology with InnoMedia's gateway and stand-alone calling devices will help make Internet calling easily available and attractive to everyone."
