New semi equip will be needed to cut costs, to produce new types of products that are being developed, i.e. faster chips, circuits on a chip, microelectromachines [mems] such as are used in air bags, and game controllers as announced today [see news re ADI] Retro fitting fabs with automation and other improvements may cut costs of older fabs and keep them competitive and anyone who does not keep up will be at a disadvantage. Use your imagination and you will find many other reasons why the equip industry will continue to be needed.
