When you set yourself up to judge others, be aware that the sword has two edges.
Did you not judge myself, Giraffe, and others for our honest admissions? We sought no accolades for our actions, merely understanding.
Again, I will reiterate that "Free Speech" is not an absolute. In fact, I will mention again, that our actions would fit perfectly as an example of the message conveyed in the introduction to this thread: "....and I did not speak out....Then they came for the me, and there was no one left to speak for me." There are many ways to affect change, and the path is not always pleasant.
What happens when they come for you Marcos? Would you not allow those of us to defend your heritage, because we are aware how much pride there is in that? Should we turn the other way and allow you to suffer the ethnic attacks, that are unwarranted?
I am sadly aware that my heritage is severely misunderstood, and people still believe that all Arabs still live in tents and ride camels. That is why I chose to speak out, and correct the situation. I also sought to correct the "praise" you gave me for not saying anything, when indeed I had. That is honour, and respect for one's self opinion. I treat others, as I would wish to be treated. Nothing more, nothing less. |
