What's wrong with 3dfx's expense management?

I'm not sure. If Nvidia can produce TNT in six months at half the operating expenses of 3dfx you tell me. Do you expect over 50M per quarter EVERY quarter next year? By your own admission Rampage will not be here until this time NEXT YEAR (18 month cycle). This means that 3dfx will be relying on Voodoo2 technology for the next year for all their OEM/retail products while everybody else eats their lunch. Rendition, 3dlabs, and ATI all have new products coming out. At least one should readily whip the crap out of Voodoo2. I won't even go into products coming out next year.

Put in this light, it would appear that 4th quarter may be the last profitable quarter 3dfx will ever see. By the time rampage comes to the scene they may have S3'd themselves into oblivion.
