Actually, we're overdue for the Rampage (V1 was the first generation product, not the V2). Also, these timelines are from Scott Sellers, and there's no official "0 hour" for them. The banshee was a quantum leap for 3dfx, their first 2d/3d part.
None of the products from Rendition, 3dlabs, or ATI are V2 killers. Yes, they may cut into margins, but the V2 should still sell strong. The average upgrade user is about a year behind the technology curve.
Banshee 2 will be out 1Q 99. Rampage is a possibility for 1st quarter. 1999 Will be the year of 3dfx.
BTW , if you're wondering why I'm so positive, its because I am looking at the companies future, not its day-to-day tribulations. I'm down 50% on my stock value (I know many of you are much deeper than that), but I expect to cash in 3-4 years from now. While the current stock value is certainly depressing, it makes no difference in the long term. None of the fundamentals have changed, and the future is bright. |
