Proprietary products (exclusive rights) are the difference between a company like GTIS and say a company like Ingram. Ingram is a stocking distributor who handles many product lines from many different companies. Generally speaking, they do not own the exclusive rights to a particular title.

What Ingram does do is buy as a wholesaler and provide merchandise and service to various retail accounts who choose not to buy their product on a direct basis from the manufacturer. Wholesalers like Ingram serve a very important function in the distribution process.

There's no better way to describe how a company becomes powerful in distribution other than to say.....a lot of hard work, sweat, service, and follow through. No different than any other business!
