Thanks for your example. Your example is not a typical one since most experienced put sellers are selling puts on a monthly basis. And lots of them are selling puts when the market goes down and buying back the puts when market rallies.

Back to my DELL example. I sold Oct. 55 puts last week for a premium of $ 5 1/8 and closed my position today by buying it back at $ 2 1/4. A nice 5% return (I did not use margin) in about a week.

I am looking forward to sell more Oct. 55, and some oct. 50 puts when market slips in the next several sessions and DELL dips toward 55.

Sure if you are involved in CIEN/TLAB mess, then your game is over. And that's why stock choice is key here.
