Don, from the Nasqaq web site :

Investing in The Nasdaq-100 Index

Individual investors can gain access to the returns on the Nasdaq-100 Index by buying unit investment trusts offered by Ranson & Associates. The minimum investment is $250 for IRAs and other qualified accounts, and $1,000 for all others.

The number of securities in the Nasdaq-100 index makes it an effective vehicle for arbitrageurs and securities traders. At the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) the Nasdaq-100 Index is used as the basis for an index option known as NDX, and since 1993 has become the 3rd most actively traded securities index option in the U.S. after the S&P 100 and the S&P 500. On the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) investors can also purchase futures. As with options, both institutional and retail customers are participants.
