george, it isn't that simple, imho. the worldwide problem is excess capacity. lower rates will encourage companies to produce more. it isn't the panacea most believe. as greenspan said, he is just as likely to RAISE rates as lower them. this is clearly fed speak for don't expect anything anytime soon. if the world continues this negative spiral then he will lower eventually. yep, we are down 50 basis points w/o a cut. will it hold if there is no cut? i don't know. longer term, though, we go much lower economic flu is as bad as i think it might be.
