NEW DELHI, INDIA, 1996 DEC 20 (Newsbytes) -- By C. T. Mahabharat. For the next two years, Novell will expand its India Development Centre (IDC) based in Bangalore. This will involve an investment of around US$20 million, according to James Tolonnen, executive vice president and chief financial officer, Novell, Inc.
This investment will be spread over offices in Chennai, Mumbai and New Delhi. Tolonnen estimates that this year, Novell IDC's contribution to Novell's worldwide development activities will be to the tune of 14 months, in terms of person months.
Novell's new network operating system, IntranetWare, which began shipping in October 1996, will contribute 40 to 50 percent to Novell Inc.'s revenues, within the next two years, Tolonnen said. Worldwide sales are expected to bring in $600-800 million in revenue for Novell.
IntranetWare "will replace the core product from Novell," said Tolonnen. This new product incorporates new intranet and Internet capabilities with NetWare 4.11's networking services.
The new additions are NetWare WebServer 2.5, FTP services, which allow users to download files from remote servers on the Internet; Netscape Navigator; an IPX-to-IP gateway; and wide-area routing to connect dispersed LANs to an intranet or the Internet.
IntranetWare, launched in India in the first week of December, is available from Onward Novell Software (India) Pvt. Ltd. a 50/50 joint venture between Novell Inc. and Onward Technologies Ltd.
