JeffK., I did a little work on
Australian Broadcasting Corporation

Here is their basic plan for digital. And they are big;
Australia's national television networkThey talk about public funding so perhaps they are more like PBS? Any help out there?, ABC-TV is
carried on over 600 transmitters throughout Australia
with newsrooms, production and transmission centres
in all capital cities.

abc.net.au

Techtel is an Australian supplier of DIVI equip. and have been very successful and they think that DIVI will do very well down under....

With the local debate on digital terrestrial broadcasting (DTV)
heating up Techtel is positioning DiviCom to be a key supplier
to the local market. DiviCom Inc. (Nasdaq: CUBE) is a leading
international provider of compression systems for digital
television and have installed a significant
MPEG-2/DVB system for Optus Communications.

DiviCom equipment is flexible and therefore is suitable for the
U.K. DTTV model of multichannel digital transmission and also
for any of the proposed Australian options incorporating
multi-channel, multi-camera and/or HDTV transmission. An
attractively priced HDTV encoder will be released by DiviCom
at the end of this year
. Now would be just fine

techtel.com.au

An idea of how much they want to spend but who pays?

The ABC must be funded
properly to realise its digital
potential in rural Australia

abc.net.au

Since they only got a small down payment they'll just get started.
