M2 PRESSWIRE-16 September 1998-SYQUEST: SyQuest upgrades utility software for Mac users (C)1994-98 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

-- New Graphical Interface Offers Creative Professionals Simplified Drive Use; Plus it's Free

FREMONT, Calif, SyQuest Technology (NASDAQ:SYQT) today announced a major upgrade of its Mac software utilities to enhance the usability of its complete line of Mac compatible drives, including the award-winning SyJet 1.5 gigabyte drive. A new, user friendly interface integrated into the Mac control panel and advanced drivers give creative professionals the look and feel they've come to expect from a Mac. And not only is the new utility software easy to install, it is also free.

"We were excited about the prospect of working with SyQuest because of our shared vision to provide quality products and services to customers," says Greg Brewer, chief executive officer, ProSoft Engineering. "SyQuest came to us because they wanted to enhance the computing experience for creative professionals and end users. Using the SyJet drive is now practically transparent to end users, allowing them to focus on their work and not even think about their storage system."

SyQuest teamed up with ProSoft, a leading provider of professional software development services, to develop the new drivers that surpass standard Mac user interface guidelines. "This upgrade is yet another sign of our continuing commitment to the Macintosh community," says Gary Jones, executive vice president, sales and marketing, SyQuest. "These utilities are incredibly easy to use and allow end users to really experience the benefits of a high capacity, removable storage device."

Key User Benefits New utility support for removability automates cartridge mounting and unmounting without requiring any user interaction. A graphical interface allows simple formatting and partitioning of cartridges, and users can verify cartridge integrity and identify defects without reformatting the media. The Mac 4.3 SCSI manager platform integrates seamlessly and allows computer users to run other applications while the drive formats or tests the cartridge.

Pricing & Availability SyQuest's Mac customers can download the upgrade free of charge from the company's website at syquest.com. All SyJet 1.5 GB drives will ship with the new software beginning in September, 1998.
