Jason,

Well I keep hearing that and since I am not a Sap worshipper I think the fundamental premise is flawed. First of all, theres a lot of growth in the midrange and psft is a little stronger there last I looked etc. OK but Sap v. Psft is another discussion I realize.

In any case, I know these scm vendors are having their problems right now and I certainly think the Sap threat (and more importantly the NOISE of the Sap threat) is part of the problem but the whole sector is weak and the Sap threat is only a problem for the SCMs so why is everybody so far off their highs?

If you are concerned about the ERPs killing SCM then maybe you might want to consider I2 which has a solid relationship with Oracle ERP, in fact I think most of the Oracle new implementations are going in with I2 (at least the ones around here - Amat, etc). Oracle has said they will be partnering with I2 vs. competing with them.

I also have this wacky idea that logistics is moving outside of the enterprise (to support things like the hub and spoke distr network) and if that happens the ERPs will not be able to provide a solution there. OK thats a ways out, but Sap being all things to everybody while at the same time the internet is enabling business transaction segmentation across vendors - I dont buy the Sap model here. This does not imply that Sap is a bad investment btw I just think logistics is more than a bolt on to your avg ERP package long term.

Michelle
