system where all programs and data are stored on one central server

Is Ellison announcing the 5th wave of computing (the fourth was client/server applications--Gorilla Game). There are all kinds of Gorilla Game references here:

Discontinuous innovation (from client/server to more efficient internet operating system)

Anticipation of a hypergrowth market -- 200% growth

Enabling technology -- an internet operating system for applications

Is Oracle 8i actually an internet operating system or is that overstating it?

Will internet computing standardize on Oracle 8i?

Are Oracle innovations so valuable as to convince corporate America to eventually abandoned client/server and pc based computing?

I have no expertise in this area but found Ellison's comments both interesting and bold. I would like to hear from Michelle, Melissa, apps and any others with applications knowledge regarding these questions. I remember either Michelle or Melissa mentioned that data transmission speed is a major obstacle to internet computing, but I imagine that obstacle will be removed someday soon.
