I have heard it talked about in the shops that it is wise to keep track of what you sell and report your sales because the IRS is never far away....

It is very silly that anyone would even think twice about this... The laws are very clear... I'm sure a lot of dealers with shops do not report all of their sales and income..and some may even pocket some of the sales tax they collect (bad idea!)... But.... To do this with easily tracked records such as Ebay is absolutely crazy (whether one is a dealer or not)... The IRS and Franchise tax boards will have a heyday...

The mom and pop's who are selling via these auctions and not considering the sales tax and income implications better open their eyes...
