John, I have IRA accounts with Waterhouse and I have level I option authorization - meaning I can only write calls. I have not checked if they allow call and put buying. I have heard some other brokerages "might" allow call and put buying in IRA accounts but don't know who they are.

I don't think you can do what you suggested. If you take delivery of the underlying stock from a call expiration, you get to keep the stock under the same account. Any transfer into an IRA account will be subject to the $2000 per year limit unless it is a rollover.
