Uganda Denies Involvement in Sudan Crisis

KAMPALA (Sept. 17) XINHUA - The Ugandan government Thursday
denied its involvement in Sudanese crisis by refuting a report that
Sudanese army had killed Ugandan soldiers in the southern part of the
country.

Steven Kavuma, the Minister of State for Defense, said Thursday that no
soldier of the Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) was fighting
alongside Sudanese rebels, Radio Uganda reported Thursday evening.

There is also no Ugand soldier being killed, the minister added.

He said Sudanese rebels attacked government troops' positions in
Al-Gabalein and Lilia where they have been giving protection to Lord's
Resistance Army rebels of Uganda.

Local reports here quoted Abdel Rahman Khatim, the Sudanese army
spokesman, as saying Wednesday that Ugandan troops backed by Sudanese
rebels shelled with mortars and artillery several military positions in
Southern Sudan.

It is alleged that 50 Sudanese rebels, along with UPDF soldiers have
been killed by Sudanese army. Enditem
