SRAM and SIMMS prices are collapsing. I brought a 4 MEG RAM chip
today for $17.99 and was offered the chance to get a 32 MEG chip
for $129.00. The obvious problem with this market is tremendous
oversupply, increasing capacity far beyond the current needs this
year, and increasing chip capacity far beyond the needs of ordinary
folks (at collapsing prices).
Five years ago when the chip plant burned down in Japan and supplies
were tight these companies could really make killer money in chips.
Today, I can buy chips for within a factor of ten on a pound for
pound basis with POTATO CHIPS. There is no money to be made in this
market and certainly no accelerating earnings necessary to boost chip
prices back to where they were in mid 1995.
