*ot* Mr. F, I enjoyed your analysis of WJC's character structure. I
can safely say that 80% of those I knew in psych grad school could
never have outlined it as well as you did. I agree with your "findings" and in particular the issue of his lack of adult development. He possesses insufficient gravitas required of leadership precisely because he has not been able to advance beyond a pscyhological adolescence. The adolescent is characterized by an inability to self-reflect, a (an excessive) need for stimulation, adulation and a sense of belonging/being dissolved within a safe and approving collective peerdom (Erickson). It is that dissolution, or, shall we say, liquidity/transparency and lack of definition that is inconsistent with the solidity/opacity/weight of true psychological maturity. Notice that he was never accused of being an ideologue! Another adolescent sign you've alluded to is (and of greater worry here) attention to self needs at the expense of attention to the
needs of the collective. He does, however, reflect the lack of maturity in our adolescent and narcissistic society (Lasch), and as
such is only a mirror of ourselves. We elected him in large numbers, so we must have liked or at least been willing to overlook these
characteristics! On the positive side, he is very smart, works hard
and has attempted to be conscientious about his work. It's too bad
that his minuses caught up with and overtook his pluses....sw
