Bruce, There are no insurmountable problems with sending nanoships to the stars. I did not say that a search would be limited to 8 stars, but that 8 were reachable within 10 years at the speed of light. As revealed by the Hubble telescope, the chances are very high that each star has several planets. It is only necessary that planets have water and a few hundred million years, for life to evolve.

Once nanoships were perfected, they could be replicated very cheaply, much like computer chips are now. Perhaps a hundred could be sent to each star, each with a different trajectory, increasing the odds for a successful mission.

This will end my discussion of this topic on this thread, unless the others want it to continue.

One further note. I doubt that interstellar traveling aliens would stop on Earth just to relieve themselves in our bushes, because they sucked too much beer.
