The fact that Hyde wants full subpoena power without the approval of the minority tells me how fair Hyde will be about this. (In comparison, the Judiciary chair of Watergate Peter Rodino gave a subpoena vote to the minority). The fact that he is running willy-nilly into injudicious decisions to release the grand jury tape and the full Starr report without any reflection tells me that he is acting at the beck-and-call of the leadership. I respected Hyde up until a few days ago (even though we are on opposite sides of the political spectrum) but his recent actions have been acidly partisan and completely out of character. This will be war, and I don't think he's going to come out of this smelling like a rose.

As for standards set by Starr, you know exactly what I'm talking about. He has set forth the claim that Clinton committed "perjury" and "obstruction." I am simply applying those standards to my understanding of Crane's conduct. I didn't say anything about impeachment.

As for censure, just as "high crimes and misdemeanors" is a flexible standard, so is the punishment. The Congress could pass a resolution saying anything they want it to say. Just because Delay has tried to dampen down the censure hatches doesn't mean it can't happen.
