I am VentureCap2: My partner has gone to St. Kits for a holiday and I am doing some posting. He may get pissed at me for being so forward with my comments but I have a mission and its not for you to dump Net nanny and get into THW. Its for another reason. To protect our investment in THW.
My posts are mainly to query the subject of Parental control kids browsers to see how strong the shareholder backing is for Net Nanny and what public company sentiment is in regards to companies in this market.
1. The First response that I saw after my first post was for some to defend Net Nanny or point out they are the dominant leaders in this parental control market. Fine and understandable.
2. I also want to see if Net Nanny has strong or possibly weak shareholder backing, and my views are only my own.
I have made a judgement call and now I will try to inform the Totally Hip management that they would be wasting their time in a saturated market with many negative stigmas attached by trying to give their kids browser away. I will try to drum up other shareholder demands that they should just drop any plans for its release and focus on the web design tools. I don't want them to get distracted and their approach so far has been cautious, which is good. I'm worried about other things I have found out in a short period of time.
3. I went to Chapters Books last night and went through about 10 recently published books that list Internet related software for parents and how to entertain and protect their children and did not come across any mention of Net Nanny at all in the list of subjects etc and nothing in the index or anywhere in the pages of the books. I thought the leader would be listed with the mentions of parental control browsers. Nothing. Nothing on the CDs. Hum!
4. I was originally excited about the potential for THW, but now my personal belief is that Netscape and Microsoft will put the Parental control features directly in their browsers soon and release them and obsolete anyone that is in this market. That's why I think it's a dead end market and I am out to inform THW to stay out of it. But I need to have some concrete information to let them know as a concerned shareholder so they will take me seriously.
5. Lets face it, in my due diligence in the last two days with credible sources and my searches on the Net I have found out some alarming information. It is that some people have run Net Nanny up and down the grease pole a few times (60 cents to $3.30 and back down it slides, and then back up with promotion, and then down it slides, and back up with promotion, and then down again and now there are site messages that say they are ready for another run up that slippery pole. There is nothing wrong with people that believe in Net Nanny but I did some further checks.
6. I called 3 credible sources (well respected analysts in Vancouver, Toronto and San Francisco) today that know of all the pump and dump VSE and ASE and OTCBB listed companies and asked him about Parental Control browsers and the market propects and also about Net Nanny and guess what the consistant answers and comments were:
"Stay away from it. They have a product, some revenues, but basically from a stock standpoint its been a pump and dump situation all along, without much substance behind it to back it up. They put out press releases on anything, even if they show up at the White House or go to a trade show with Microsoft. Hundreds of companies do all the time but they don't put out hype releases. If you are a shareholder of Totally Hip and you know they are considering to put out a product (free or otherwise) in this market, tell them to stay out of the market. It is not a market. It's a temporary bridge product market that will die. If they do get into it, it will change my good opinion of them and many solid Canadian and US investors won't follow them any more. And those that have been burned on Net Nanny's grease pole promotion of their stock will cause THW to become damaged by any association to the Parental control market and the market that Net Nanny is in.
Conclusion: -------------- I'm going to recommend that THW stay the hell out of this market segment from what I have heard and the research I have done. I am also going to recommend that they just give away the product by posting it and the source code to the Internet under the same terms as what Netscape has done and leave it at that.
To conclude, I wouldn't be suprised if I found Net Nanny on the sites that list the Slimy stocks and major promotionals to stay away from. I checked for Totally Hip on all these types of sites before I invested and couldn't find anything on them or anything bad about them at all on the Internet. But I haven't checked the Net Nanny to see if they are listed. I'll do that tonight. For the shareholders on this board, I hope they are not on it. It's the kiss of death.
