Very interesting. I have several thoughts about this.

One is that it won't be that easy to make a fine computer like the iMac that is as elegant and pleasant to use, so the copy won't be as good; especially if it doesn't use the Mac OS.

Two is that Apple alienated the clone makers by breaching faith with them, no matter how good it was for Apple's self interest to do that. So it's expected that the clone makers might go for retribution.

Three is that it gives Apple a year to create a better iMac, and Apple better do that. If Apple doesn't keep improving the products and doing new and exciting things, it will die, anyway.

Four is that it's a sign of how good the product is that it will be copied.

My product was copied, and because of several reasons I couldn't keep ahead of the copy-cats, even though I think my original product was better than most of the copy-cats. Apple doesn't have the problems I had, and should be able to handle the copycatters. I think it's a good sign they think there's so much money in it. :-) Apple's got them where it hurts if they wouldn't be copying AAPL.
