To anyone interested in the issue of free speech on SI.

An idea.
The Medium is the Message - Therefore, although our first inclination is to consider posts using SI as a communication medium in the same context as all free speech, there may be an essential difference.

Take a look at the actual display of posts on any SI thread. Also, remember the effect that off topic and especially belligerent off topic posts has on the quality of the thread.
And only after having done the above, consider the following proposition:

Off Topic Posts are to an SI thread as Litter is to a Landscape.
