*AV*--You bet I traded DPMI today. I got in at $20 and sold from $22 and above. Talk about your gift for today, given the crappy market. Masks are going to be in a shortage mode but you have to factor these things in.
1. DPMI is taking over the HWP mask shop. HWP as well as most of all the other internal mask shops, are typically run very inefficiently. this means that when DPMI or PLAB take one of these over, 2 things happen. First, they transfer the state of the art tools to their production facilities and Second, the run them almost twice as efficiently. This is because they try to fully utilize the tools. HWP was not getting full productivity because they did not need to.
2. MOT is mothballing their $3 billion dollar fab and "we are seeing lower prototyping activity which is unprecendented in this industry."
This and other things have all come to a boil and we are going to see the industry blow off for the rest of the year. This is both good and bad. We are entering the darkess part of the storm now and it looks as if we will come out of the tunnel after the first of the year. With this said, we see a gradual recovery that will not gain it full momentum until mid 1999.
Nice update on DY, thanks.
THERE WILL BE NO NEWSLETTER FOR FRIDAY, SEPT 18th. I could give you a whole lot of rationalizations like:
1. NO way I want anything in print for Triple Witching Friday. 2. Market was so miserable today, it is hardly worth trying to generate any enthusiasm. 3. We are in a re-group mode and need to just be cautious and see how things unfold. 4. I do not get paid for this so it is my discretion as to whether I do it. 5. I have been burning the candle at both ends and am tired.
However, none of them are accurate. The newsletter was not done because I did not receive the RST Scan List as of now and I have been working on getting all the details down for setting up the newsletter on the Internet. Have I sold out ?? only time will tell but I hope not. I think I can provide a valuable service and want to see exactly how valuable a service it really is. If the "spam" being done by the company that contacted me wants a website link as filler, who am I to turn it down.<GGGG> We all don't own Bentleys like Patrick.
Anyway, nothing to read today folks. Anyone who feels neglected could write me a nastigram on the back of a check for a few hundred dollars and I will be most apologetic<GGGG>.
