Naveen;

Well answered by someone who hasn't yet learned to take his citizenship for granted!

My take is somewhat different. All things involve tradeoffs. I do not see the politicians calling for his impeachment as morally superior -- only more hypocritical. Further, I have no wish to see this country come under their political control. Evidently, neither do 60% of my fellow Americans.

Grounds for impeachment are the commission of "high crimes and misdemeanors". Historically, this has been construed to mean treason; subordination of the constitution; or substantive corruption. Having an improper sexual relationship and lying about it -- even under oath -- do not rise to that level.

Nixon left office under threat of imminent impeachment because *both* political parties came to understand that he used executive powers to destroy his political enemies.

What Nixon did was evil. What Clinton did was stupid.

Mr. Clinton is the most talented politician I have seen in my lifetime. He has intelligence, energy, emotional engagement and a commitment to his job. Moreover I share much of his political ideology. Yet his "appetites" (not uncommon in "great" leaders) may yet prove his undoing. Therein lies the tragedy.

There are no absolutes or perfect people -- only tradeoffs. The American people in their wisdom understood that and twice decided that they were better off with Bill Clinton than George Bush or Bob Dole.

In a democratic society, the will of the people is not to be so casually undone.
