David, Re: I've seen this stuff discussed in an academic journal.

I still occasionally see a 5% spread between the bid and the ask on some of the four digit stocks. Tough on an investor to give that up going in and out.

I was trying to add some substance to the general discussion of manipulation. Considering we were talking about $2B a year, I'd say they demonstrated that they will do so whenever and however they can get away with it.
