The Belizean Government is warning the public that "Pan American Bancorp" based in the US is fraudulently claiming it has an agreement with the Government to conduct mortgage banking in Belize. This company, according to advertisements on the Internet, claims it has already received six thousand mortgage applications from Belizean citizens through its wholly-owned subsidiary called "Affordable Housing Group Limited," supposedly located in Belize. The Government declares it is not aware of any guarantee of these or any other mortgages as claimed by this foreign company. Furthermore, the government is not aware of any business arrangement between Pan-American Bankcorp and the Central Bank of Belize.
