Lab to Test EVs, Fuel Cell EVs Long Beach, Calif. - Mercedes-Benz of North America is opening a new $6 million emissions-testing laboratory in Long Beach that will also test the automaker's future EVs and fuel-cell powered EVs, reports the Los Angeles Times. The German automaker will also use the lab to test pre-production vehicles and do quality-assurance testing on its line of automobiles and sport-utility vehicles (SUVs). The facility also contains one of the auto industry's first four-wheel-drive dynamometers, which may be used to test all-wheel-drive passenger vehicles and four-wheel drive trucks and SUVs. The new 21,000-square-foot Long Beach facility replaces an 8,000-square-foot facility in Carson the automaker operated for 25 years. California represents Mercedes-Benz's largest market.
