Alcatel pays $4.4 billion for DSC Communications June 4, 1998 DALLAS- France's Alcatel Alsthom said early yesterday it is buying telecommunications equipment maker DSC Communications for $4.4 billion in stock. "The strong position of DSC in access and switching, fixed and mobile, coupled with Alcatel's leadership position in transmission, broadband ATM, xDSL and data technology, creates a major power in the U.S. market - one capable of serving the smallest local exchange carrier, to the largest, international long distance carrier, as well as the new breed of entrepreneurial operators." ********** Alcatel, Ascend in Networking Deal September 17, 1998- Things seem to get more interesting by the day in the ever-changing world of voice and data networking. Data player Ascend Communications announced a multiyear deal with European voice equipment giant Alcatel to build new networking equipment to handle the high-speed needs of the ever-growing Net. ___________________________________________
Thread, Anybody know why Alcatel, who just spent $4.4 billion on what I thought was a data networker, has to go to Ascend for data networking products? I'm just curious about this. I don't understand it, but Ascend must have something that $4.4 billion didn't buy! Makes me glad I'm long ASND. MikeM(From Florida) |
