I think that is Japan's problem exactly. From memory (therefore probable incorrect), I think 5.5% yield was used to calculate pension plan returns in Japan. Needless to say, that has not been the case for the last few years. I also understand that there are going to be major implications to the Japanese insurance industry tough I can't find the article that discussed this issue. In hind sight, it may be worth a little more attention.
