I don't think Hyde is defending the "guy" in the sense of approving of his actions or even overlooking them. He seemed rather to have defended against further kicking him, as apparently he was already down, no longer struggling against the payment of retribution (and this certainly is no description that could be applied to Clinton).

I agree with your last sentence, however, but suspect our reasoning is different. Why do you think it so reprehensible to have an affair with a 17 year old? Is it because it is illegal? If the affair had occurred with a 17.5 year old or an 18 year old, would the circumstances be any different for you? If so, why?
