Arrrrggggghhhh........

I can't make the SI portfolio tracker work for real-world stuff. I'd like the "totals" row at the bottom to reflect performance to date (including purchases and sales), not performance of the portfolio as shown.

Doesn't work that way.

techstocks.com

So..... the second of the two "$" rows reflects the "Bounce" loss in AVIR. I added this row to keep the tax cost constant at our beginning $100K. Unfortunately, I can't override the "current value" cell for this row to make it zero, which means that the "current value" and "portfolio change" totals look better than they actually are. The true "current value" total for the portfolio can be calculated by subtracting the "current value" shown for the second "$" row.

The portfolio tracking program needs to provide the user with a "fudge" row, where one can keep track of past gains/losses such that the tax basis can be maintained at a starting value (e.g., our $100K) and such that the totals row reflects performance to date.
