I think the House Judiciary did an A job of putting their spin on this release. Really, really good. And I think they are right, as I have written.

I think they have materially increased the likelihood of backlash through their comments. I'm pretty sure the avalanche of detail in the 2800 pages will get backlash and disinterest by the bulk of the public. While giving some fence sitting newspaper editorial pages some particular details to get outraged over, and accordingly weigh in for impeachment. With little effect. (Unless the NY Times or the Washington Post call for resignation, or worse, impeachment. That could really be serious, and could happen. Don't underestimate the impact on moderate or risky election facing Democratic members of Congress of the NY Times taking such a position.)

Unfortunately, there is no one Democrat who has pulled it all together as a first class leading spokesman. Zoe Lofgren has the right tone and gravitas. Barney Frank is seems to have the quickest mind, and to be the sharpest phrase maker. (I loved his Taliban comment. "To say that these committee hearings have been bi-partisan is to say that the Taliban are a model of religious tolerance.") Some others whose names I haven't even kept ahold of are also are emerging. There's a black guy in particular (certainly not Conyers, who seems rather dim), who is impressive.

We live, I'm afraid, in times the Chinese would certainly call interesting.
