I can think of nothing worse than a middle-aged woman with a ponytail and pompoms. (Charo?) My ponytail days are long gone. These are the days of highlights and good gold jewelry with denim. EVery age has its requirements. Even the people who believe they are rebelling against the norm are usually only following another. Perhaps Steve, living in another country, has managed to avoid this. When we went climbing, I noticed that there was a definite "look" among the young people, yet I know they thought they were just as nonconformist as possible. Or maybe they think their group is nonconforming so it's ok. No one wants to be a conformist, but most of us are. I think it's a rare person who is able to live without regard for the external world. And he may even look completely conforming, because he is so internalized, he just does whatever's easiest on the outside. I don't know what I'm talking about. So forget it. Maybe I'll grow a ponytail after all.
