Les,

If I recall, _The Economist_ had a "If he lied, then go"
editorial one week after we all found out about this saga.

The interesting thing is though, that this guy would rather
drag this country into impeachment hearings than surrender.
There are many reasons for this...

1) Legal bills now equal his net worth.

2) He does not own his own home. Where will he go? I think
the Holiday Inn in Littlerock is out of the question.

3) Historic precedent is of Andrew Johnson. He survived the
impeachment process by 1 vote, in what was an ugly, partisan
attempt to knock him out of office.

4) 1998 Congressional elections. Hope springs eternal with this
man. He figures that if the Democrats can recapture the house,
they can derail the impeachment process.

5) The don't call him the "Comeback Kid" for nothing. This guy
has a long history of surviving political knockout blows.

I think we will see Senate impeachment hearings by January and
perhaps a vote by March or April. Its going to be ugly, long,
and nasty all the way. Oh well...

-John

Oh, I forgot 1 more thing: Ken Starr will indict Bill Clinton
for purjury the day after he leaves office and no longer has
the executive powers of President to protect himself. He would
do it now except that the Constitution is inclear on the question
of indicting a sitting President and nobody wants to find out if
it can be done.
