Ultracheap computers have lower margins. That has been stated as a fact by both the box makers and the chip makers, and the statement is supported by the recent financial results of these companies. The majority of the sub-$1000 PCs have been sold to new computer users, which suggests to me that these customers simply would not or could not pay more, no matter what the performance. Katherine
