In a deflationary scenario commodities compete against commodities..
That is in order to safe money people eat home rather than going to the restaurants, and restaurants (surviving that is) buy less Dells ....
To make it even more simple it is eggs against chips....and yes innovation becomes the only way to increase productivity after job cuts are completed....The bottom in commodities, any of them (gold, oil, chips would signal the bottom in the deflationary market...as it would signal bottom in dollar...Chips may be at the bottom, still has no meaning for Dollar Market spiraling down....All commodities are at multiyear high in most of the countries in terms of Dollar of course...untill Dollar drops (read Dow)-there could be no bottom as there will be profit to make....And that is why China must devalue to survive, signaling further erosion in Dollar..the bottom close...As far as Dollar (Dow) Market we may just started a descent....
