Destron Fearing gets European pet ID order Thursday September 17, 6:30 pm Eastern Time SOUTH ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept 17 (Reuters) - Destron Fearing Corp. said Thursday it has received an order from its European distributor, Merial, for 300,000 transponders to be used in European pet identification programs.
The company said about 250,000 of the transponders are expected to be delivered during the first quarter of Destron's 1999 fiscal year, which begins on October 1, 1998.
Merial is an animal health joint venture established last year by Merck & Co Inc. (NYSE:MRK - news) and Rhone-Poulenc SA .
Destron said the order reflect strong demand for electronic identification as an alternative to tattooing in many countries in Europe.
''These identification programs are being implemented in several nations of Europe to promote responsible pet ownership, control dangerous dogs and control rabies,'' said Destron president and chief executive officer Randolph Geissler.
Destron Fearing makes electronic and visual identification devices for companion animals, livestock, laboratory animals, fish and wildlife. |
