And now no more pro arguments from DIVX lovers - game's over folks -
DVD is gaining in popularity, and Divx and laserdiscs are on their way out.
techweb.com

(DVD installed base 800,000 units! How the heck could DIVX match
this if they sold 2-3 players in that one store in 3 months - if that
rate continues with say 500 stores they will sell 1,500 units in 3
months - big time ouch - increase that 10 fold and we have 15,000 units in 3 months - still nothing compared to 800,000 units! Plus the main reason on the consumer side - too expensive and not well differnetiated or explained - the 40% reduction in advertising for DIVX is really telling . Plus the fact that they need to find further sources of cash. Very telling! Public companies can't bleed cash on pipe dreams for too long I think. We shall see. Can't believe that a retailer actually was pushing a format???)

(BTW 25 million sold out copies is why VHS is not going to vanish anytime soon... <g>. These things take time but the change to DVD is inevitable - digital everywhere but on VCRs is kinda ridiculous....)

And about DVD sales:
techweb.com

and this clever movie will be part of the l/t convergence trend for
DVD etc:
techweb.com ( > than 600k,
I like 800k better!)

LSI should have a good DVD Christmas and 1999!

Shane (while listening to a 3Com 56k ad...)
