I thought many brokers get comm. based on business they generate; sure it would take a while to build a "customer base". But Phil Fisher wrote bad market times are better to start in this kind of business as things are likely to improve and the customers will appreciate this for a long time to come. So now may not be the best time, and competition is great.

That's what i expect, nominal "10% correction". the expected mass fund etc. inflows make timing very tight, since the correction should be over before apreciable fraction of inflows would benefit from "buying low". On the other hand, latest three weeks (ending We) had net outflows and the market is near highs, so most stock funds are pretty low on cash now and it will not be prudent for them to start buying before getting enough new dough to increase their cash levels a % or two.
