The entire system is set up to ensure that anybody with those qualities is removed in the early going. What we frequently see is the illusion of dignity and integrity, which politicians go to great lengths to present, using techniques derived from advertising and show business. In most cases the illusion lasts only until someone bothers to puncture the balloon. In the past there was a tacit agreement not to puncture, which has now been altered. Good luck looking for d&i in the near future. As for LBJ's contrition, it struck me as about as authentic as Swaggart's. Just more coached, rehearsed, ad business. No authenticity there whatsoever. Though I suppose Swaggart was sorry - sorry he got caught. Steve
